English only?

I woke up this morning and found this story on the local newspaper’s website:

Tabitha and Alberto Hernandez were lying down in their bedroom on Monday after they moved into the Kings Mobile Home Park when they say someone knocked on the door looking for someone who spoke English.

Tabitha Hernandez, 30, said she got up and was greeted by a woman who said she was a park manager sent to deliver a message from the owner of the park in Okeechobee County.

"She said whoever didn't speak English had to get out," Hernandez said. "I couldn't believe it."

I can't believe it either.

Hernandez said the manager told her and others they had to leave by Friday because of a "new rule" park owners had adopted saying that all residents at the park, on State Road 70 just east of U.S. 98, must be able to speak English at all times.
The blatant intolerance simply blew me away, but it's indicative of the xenophobic mindset so many seem to be embracing these days. The order didn't last long; officials who got wind of the order called the park owner to let him know his "new rule" violated Florida's Fair Housing Act.
