I hope he was arrested too

And that she's not the only one facing even misdemeanor charges.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Firefighters had to tear though a wall to rescue an intoxicated man who became stuck while trying to climb down a chimney into the residence of his former girlfriend....

Firefighters requested assistance from police after arriving because they said Connie Deweese was hampering the rescue effort by blocking the fireplace.

"I told them to leave him in the chimney and let him die," said Deweese, who received misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct and interfering with a firefighter....

Valencio returned to the residence after being treated at a hospital and was filmed by a local TV station as Deweese hit him with a garbage can and pelted him with bottles.

I'd like to see the video of Deweese going ballistic on his ass after he returned from the hospital--I'm sure it's classic stuff, and I applaud her for not being the shrinking violet that she's expected to be. But I am bothered by the inclusion of this story in the Peculiar Postings section. I mean, this is sinister shit we're talking about here. He's a stalker, drunk or otherwise, and was willing to try to go in through a freaking chimney in order to try to get to her. That's like Sci-Fi Channel original movie quality creepy, and not in the it's-so-bad-it's-good way either. The AP left a lot out of this story--not surprising since it's not the kind to have legs--but does Valencio have a record of stalking his ex-girlfriends? Has Deweese had problems with him before--sure sounds like it, given her level of frustration.

And why wasn't this guy charged with anything? He's guilty of trespassing and home invasion, for crying out loud. Being drunk doesn't get you off the hook for that kind of shit, or it shouldn't, at the very least. What would he have done if he'd made it down the chimney? This isn't a cutesy story, folks--it could have wound up with a far darker ending.
