I caught this on Salon's Broadsheet. There is, apparently, an Afghan version of "American Idol" (which is itself an American version of Britain's "Pop Idol" -- is this globalization, or a one-world culture?)
And (this is news) there is a WOMAN singer doing well. (Apparently there have been a few women on this show in the past, but they were eliminated early -- kind of like the women on the Food Network's "Next Iron Chef," you've come not so long a way as you thought, baby.) Interestingly, we can vote for her, online.
I find nothing melodious in this (uh, one world culture? maybe not), but I'm going to vote for her, and hope this doesn't get her killed.
